Auto Electrical Repair in Wichita, KS

Keeping It All Powered Up

While it's obvious that an all electric vehicle relies on electrical power for all operations, the reality is that even your traditionally powered gasoline or diesel automobile with an internal combustion engine uses electrical power in various ways. Electrical current is required to start your transportation as well as for the operation of many of its accessories. Not only is it important to know what powers your car, but it's equally important to know who can reliably power your repairs. The ASE-certified technicians at Affinity Automotive Services in Wichita, Kansas, provide auto electrical repairs for all makes and models. Our local, family-led establishment has a strong reputation for quality workmanship, and we stand behind our work with a solid 36-month/36,000-mile warranty.

Common Causes of Electrical Repair

Although we'll need to accurately diagnose your vehicle before performing any work, we can share some of the more common causes of electrical repair. The most obvious problem is a dead battery. The battery stores the power needed to crank your car and run certain components as you drive. Over time, it loses its ability to hold a charge as well as it once did, necessitating replacement. A simple charge will usually do if the battery is dead, simply because something was accidentally left on. The alternator converts mechanical power generated by the engine for storage in the battery. If it fails, the battery cannot recharge. Combustion occurs in the cylinders. An electrical spark generated by the spark plugs is needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture. These fire well for extended periods. Eventually, however, the tips can wear away, interfering with the optimal gap, or the plugs can become dirty. Cleaning or replacement is necessary to prevent misfires and maintain optimal performance. Spark plug wires, as well as other wires, are necessary for conducting electrical currents. If wires become frayed, broken, or chewed by rodents, they must be replaced. Fuses are used to prevent damaging power surges. If one blows, the corresponding accessory won't work until the fuse changes. Also, be aware that power motors for electrically powered components can malfunction. These include power windows and locks, as well as other extra features.
