Get your car seat inspected

Whether you’ve recently installed a car seat or require assistance with installation or understanding its proper use, we encourage you to visit a car seat inspection station. Certified technicians are available to inspect your car seat at no cost in most cases, providing guidance on correct installation and usage. This service ensures not only the safety of the child but also enhances the safety of all passengers in the vehicle

Who can make an appointment for instruction and education on car seat safety?

Soon to be Parents, guardians, family members, foster parents, grandparents, daycare providers, babysitters, if you need to transport a child, you can make an appointment.

What to Bring:

Your car manual, car seat manual, car seat, and child. It is also helpful to have up to date age, height and weight for the child if this is unknown, don’t worry the CPST (certified passenger safety Technician) will have the equipment to get the information needed on site. If you are an expectant parent, or guardian, plan to meet with the technician about a month before your baby is expected. If you are attending a check event that is first come first serve, the wait time can be lengthy. If your manuals are not available don’t worry there are other points of references for the technicians.

Time:

Expect a check to take between 30 and 90 minutes depending on any issues with compatibility of the seat and the car. It may also take longer if you have more than one seat or vehicle being checked. When you make the appointment, plan the appropriate amount of time in your schedule. We also encourage you to bring any questions or concerns you might have for the technician to answer.

Paperwork:

You can expect to fill out a small amount of paperwork. As technicians, we need to be able to document the work that we do, especially when working independently. This gives us permission to help you and access your vehicle to install. Also in case of a recall on the seat they have your contact information and helps us keep track of the checks we have done. In the event a car seat is needed and available, proof of state assistance is required at the time of the appointment.

Expectations at your appointment

  • The technician will go through a series of questions about your current seat, making sure that is appropriate for the child, that it is not expired, and that it has not been recalled, or used in a way that should not.
  • Check your vehicle for any open recalls and advise accordingly
  • The technician will review your vehicle seat belt design, and locate any anchor points for car seat tethers and latches.
  • Hands on: A technician will do more than show you how to install your seat, best practices on securing your child in the car seat or harness, and check your installation. They will make sure you are able to install your car seat by yourself. A technician is not an installer. Expect to get in the car to secure the car seat so that you can do it yourself. This will help you in the event you need to move the car seat around or have to take it out for any reason.
  • As the guardian, you will sign off that you can install the car seat yourself leaving the facility educated and empowered to make the best choices for the safety of your child and all the other passengers in your vehicle.
