Get Your Car Seat Inspected
Who can make an appointment for instruction and education on car seat safety?
What to Bring
Your car manual, car seat manual, car seat, and child. It is also helpful to have up-to-date age, height, and weight information for the child. If this is unknown, don’t worry—the CPST (Certified Passenger Safety Technician) will have the equipment needed to gather that information on-site.
If you are an expectant parent or guardian, plan to meet with the technician about a month before your baby is expected. If you are attending a first-come, first-served check event, wait times may be lengthy. If your manuals are not available, don’t worry—technicians have access to other resources.

Expectations at Your Appointment
The technician will:
- Review your current car seat to ensure it is appropriate for the child.
- Verify that it is not expired, recalled, or otherwise unsafe.
- Check your vehicle for any open recalls.
- Review your seat belt design and locate anchor points for tethers and latches.
Hands-on Training:
A technician will do more than simply show you how to install your seat. They will teach best practices for securing your child, verify your installation, and ensure you can install the seat yourself. Technicians are educators, not installers. Expect to participate in the installation process so you are confident moving or reinstalling the seat when needed.
As the guardian, you will sign off that you can install the car seat yourself, leaving the facility educated and empowered to make the safest choices for your child and all vehicle passengers.
